The dip resistance based stand-off estimation model developed above was<br />

validated for bead-on-plate welding trials carried out in the flat position. During initial<br />

flat position fillet welding trials, it was observed that the model produced a stand-off<br />

estimation with a value smaller than the actual stand-off. Considering that in fillet<br />

joints the weld pool is constricted, it can be expected that a certain bead build up will<br />

occur below the welding arc, thus effectively reducing the distance between the<br />
