for adults to swim regularly. Our limitations in lane availability beyond very few holidays
have only been by cause/notification of district priority or their exclusive uses (per the
City/District Agreement) and up to 6 community events or competitions per year in support
of the local Jr. swim programs which have been expected within the current contract. The
following is how we plan to EXCEED the programs expectations outlined in RFP
Attachment A – Schedule Requirements. Programs are further described in #3 and #6
below.
a. Lap Swim: Increase the daily lanes available to lap swimmers beyond the number of
lanes outlined as a minimum in RFP Attachment A – Schedule Requirements.
i. Increase the number of hours lanes are available throughout the summer
schedule (extending one hour each weekday morning; extending 1.5 hours
each weekday afternoon; and dedicating lap swim lanes on the weekend
‘open’ swim times in the afternoons.)
ii. Add ‘seniors’ only dedicated lanes and times available prior to the noon rush
and at the same time as our water exercise classes. Giving more healthy
options for seniors and reducing the parking issues that can occur at the
standard noon lap swim.
iii. Offer 50 Meter lane setups (long course) in the summer mornings and
holidays and now winter Thursday’s too.
b. Masters Swim: Increased adult offerings for learning improved training through the
“CSC Masters – Sunnyvale” program and adult lessons, which further increased the
number of lanes available for adult swimmers.
c. Instructional Lessons: daily lessons are offered for all ages with particular attention
to the spring, summer, and fall months, but with limited offerings also in the winter
months. We will continue to expand weekend offerings while maintaining new
developments in the proposed “shoulder season” of open swims on weekends.
d. Open Swim: We have met or exceeded the defined requirements for total lane hours
and weeks while also meeting the expectation of providing for local resident swim
club uses during the summer. Our goal is to provide for open recreation swim from
the Monday following the close of K-8 schools to the weekend prior to their reopening.
These summer dates have been fluctuating due to state budgets and the
local districts efforts to maintain their calendars under difficult financial times.
i. Summer Shoulder Season: A regular weekend program is new to this
location and shall be implemented to meet or exceed the expectations of the
contract as agreed. We will work closely with the department on
measurement and review to best use this time for all programs making a best
effort to reduce the impact on existing programs that will have to be cut,
changed, or eliminated to provide for this “open swim” program.
e. Swim Team: The SUNN Swim Team has been a participant in use since prior to the
opening in 2002. We have worked closely with its board and coaches to maintain a
direct line of support, we have honored their competitive program without conflict of
adding any similar program, and we have worked with the organization to develop
an improved feeder program for the on-going development of local swimmers to
their program. As is evident in their letters of support and professional reference, we
will continue our partnership and extend an agreement with this organization as long
as they also maintain the requirements of resident participation expected in the new
contract.
