k. Swim Team/Rental group use. These are outside organizations offering programs
which CSC either cannot provide or which CSC chooses not to provide. These
groups offer diversity in programming and support long running resident based
community programs such as the SUNN Swim Team. SUNN operates
independently, and continues to meet the needs of the community by offering USA
Swimming competitive programs. Other resident based or non-resident based groups
have some part-time weekend lane hours scheduled to meet various needs of the
community.
In 2012, CSC provided 8694 lane hours to Sunnyvale Swim Club for use. CSC
proposes to continue to provide for the minimum 8,000 lane hours for local teams of
which such “teams” shall have at least 60% resident members in their entire
organization and either have a Sunnyvale business license or a majority of board
members as Sunnyvale residents.
CSC also provided 3642 lane hours in 2012 to other outside rental groups that offer
various aquatics services to groups within the community. These uses have included
Calphin Swim School, Leading Swim, Santa Clara Valley Water, and Sensation
Nation.
l. Community event facility use. There are no more than 6 weekends a year which
we allow to be set aside for outside groups to come in to the facility for local,
regional, or national events. These have been primarily local USA Swimming
competitions and camps and USA Water Polo tournaments. Annual events have
included: Pacific Swimming 10 and under championship and camp; 2 of SUNN’s
annual big events, USA Water Polo tournament, and Silicon Valley Swim League
Championships hosted by Fairbrae Swim and Racquet Club. We limit the number of
closures due to the fact that the District could also call for up to 15 days in the school
year for priority or exclusive use of the pool per the City/District agreement. It is our
goal to minimize the total number of days per year which may cause disruption to
our regular swim programs, particularly lap swimmers.
4. Qualifications of, and the number of, staff for our programs. CSC has a basic structure
for the pool that matches that of all our locations. The pool will have one manager –
responsible for the first half of the day, and an assistant manager responsible for the second
half of the day. The manager reports directly to the Directors (Principals) at CSC. They are
assisted by several corporate support positions such as the Manager of Program
Development, Christopher Brown; Human Resources, Christy Duzac; and of course they
have the support of their colleagues, 7 other managers of CSC locations. The manager and
assistant manager have principal responsibility to the entire program and deck operation as
well as their entire staff from lifeguards, to instructors, to coordinators. Daily coordination
and collaboration of our own programs with the district and with other facility users is
critical to successful management at this pool. CSC’s ‘org chart’ is as follows (see also
