f/11. You have just doubled the<br />

amount of light that would enter the<br />

camera if you clicked the shutter.<br />

Remember that increasing the aperture<br />

by one "stop" always doubles the<br />

size of the lens opening. (Also<br />

remember that a lower number indicates<br />

a larger opening.)<br />

Now change the shutter speed to<br />

250. Since 1/250 of a second is half<br />

as much time as 1/125, the amount<br />

of light reaching the film has just<br />

been cut in half. So you're back at the<br />

point of departure exposure again. In<br />

other words, so far as the amount of<br />

light is concerned, f/11 at 250 will<br />

produce the same exposure as f/16 at<br />

125.<br />

These two settings will not produce<br />

exactly the same photograph. Both
