Additionally, the above section has shown that both in terms of soft news and interpretative<br />

reporting a rise can be detected in the United States and Denmark, but this development is rarely<br />

statistically significant. Moreover, it does not seem like there is a correspondence between<br />

American news frames or style of reporting and Danish newspapers in terms of similar<br />

developments over time. <strong>The</strong>re is no clear connection between soft and interpretative news<br />

reporting in the Danish and American newspapers which were expected to share reporting styles<br />

based on degree of commercial pressure. It can therefore not be concluded that there is a clear<br />

development towards more soft news and interpretative reporting either in the United States or in<br />

Denmark due to increased commercial pressure over time.<br />

5.4 H2: Objectivity<br />

H2: After 1968 the biggest Danish newspapers have separated themselves from direct<br />

political influence, and consequently the journalistic style has moved increasingly<br />

towards the ―objectivity norm,‖ espoused by leading American journalistic<br />

institutions.<br />

H2a: From 1986 and forward news stories in Danish newspapers are increasingly<br />

characterized by descriptive information instead of emotion or interpretation.<br />

H2b: From 1968 and forward news stories in Danish newspapers increasingly abandon one-<br />

source articles in coverage of political stories.<br />

H2c: From 1968 and forward news stories in Danish newspapers increasingly utilize a hard<br />

news lead based on answering who, what, when, where, why and how in the first<br />

paragraphs.<br />
