Mr. President:<br />

In view <strong>of</strong> the Middle East situation 2 this is an ideal time to proceed<br />

rapidly with the announcement <strong>of</strong> resumption <strong>of</strong> U.S. military assistance<br />

to <strong>Greece</strong>. It will also assist in creating a favorable climate in the<br />

event we have to call on Greek cooperation should a contingency occur.<br />

150171. For Ambassador from the Secretary.<br />

1. Please inform Prime Minister Papadopoulos that public announcement<br />

<strong>of</strong> the resumption <strong>of</strong> deliveries <strong>of</strong> suspended military<br />

items will be made on Tuesday, September 22 2 and that instructions<br />

have been given U.S. military services to arrange for expeditious delivery<br />

<strong>of</strong> the items which are now to be released for shipment to the<br />
