The results from 2006 were somewhat variable. Our trials mirrored the mixed results obtained by barley growers. Yields were not particularly good and test weight and plump values were also poor at several locations. We had a favorable spring and plots were planted in a timely manner. A very dramatic increase in temperatures resulted in the loss of optimum yield, test weight, and plump kernels. Our elite trials included Aberdeen, Ashton, Fenn (new site), Filer, Potlatch, Soda Springs, and Tetonia, ID. In addition, in cooperation with BARI, at Idaho Falls, ID and Fairfield, MT. Preliminary and advanced lines were evaluated at the majority of these locations except Ashton and Idaho Falls, ID and Fairfield, MT, where only the elite malt was evaluated. The Advanced Yield Malt trial was planted as Aberdeen, Fenn, File, Soda Springs, and Tetonia. Aberdeen and Filer were irrigated. Results for selected two-rowed lines are shown in Table 1 and six-rowed selections in Table 3. Please note that we had not yet received any malt data from 2006 and therefore quality data for 2006 is not included in the summaries presented in the following tables. Table 1.
