Removing <strong>and</strong> replacing server components<br />

Removing a ServeRAID SAS controller battery<br />

To remove a ServeRAID SAS controller battery from the adapter, complete the following<br />

steps.<br />

1. Read the safety information in Section 1 <strong>and</strong> Installation guidelines.<br />

2. Turn off the server <strong>and</strong> peripheral devices, <strong>and</strong> disconnect the power cords <strong>and</strong> all<br />

external cables as necessary.<br />

3. Remove the top cover (see Removing the top cover ).<br />

4. If you are removing the battery from a ServeRAID SAS controller located in one of the<br />

rear I/O connectors, see Removing an adapter for controller removal instructions.<br />

5. If you are removing the battery from the ServeRAID SAS controller located behind the<br />

hard disk drives, see Removing the RAID adapter carrier <strong>and</strong> the RAID adapter<br />

assembly for controller removal instructions.<br />

6. Disconnect the cable that connects the battery to the battery carrier.<br />

7. Remove the battery from the adapter.<br />

8. If you are instructed to return the battery, follow all packaging instructions, <strong>and</strong> use<br />

any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.<br />

Replacing a ServeRAID SAS controller battery<br />

To replace a ServeRAID SAS controller battery, complete the following steps:<br />

1. Install the battery on the ServeRAID adapter.<br />

2. Connect the cable from the battery to the battery carrier.<br />

3. If you are installing a ServeRAID SAS controller located in one of the rear I/O<br />

connectors, see Replacing an adapter for controller installation instructions.<br />

4. If you are installing the ServeRAID SAS controller located behind the hard disk drives,<br />

see Replacing the RAID adapter carrier <strong>and</strong> the RAID adapter assembly for controller<br />

installation instructions.<br />
