Removing <strong>and</strong> replacing server components<br />

1. Read the safety information in Section 1 <strong>and</strong> Installation guidelines.<br />

2. Turn off the server <strong>and</strong> peripheral devices, <strong>and</strong> disconnect the power cords <strong>and</strong> all<br />

external cables as necessary to replace the device.<br />

3. Remove the top cover (see Removing the top cover ).<br />

4. Pull the hard disk drives <strong>and</strong> fillers out of the server slightly to disengage them from<br />

the SAS backplane. If you remove the drives from the server, be sure to note the<br />

location of each drive so that you will be able to reinstall them in the correct drive<br />

bays.<br />

5. Slide the latch on top of the backplane assembly while you pull the blue h<strong>and</strong>le on<br />

the backplane cable assembly up to remove it from the server. The cables are<br />

attached to the assembly.<br />

6. Disconnect the power <strong>and</strong> configuration cables from the hard disk drive backplane.<br />

7. If you are instructed to return the hard disk drive backplane assembly, follow all<br />

packaging instructions, <strong>and</strong> use any packaging materials for shipping that are<br />

supplied to you.<br />

Replacing the hard disk drive backplane <strong>and</strong> cable assembly<br />

To replace the hard disk drive backplane cable assembly, complete the following steps.<br />

1. Connect the power <strong>and</strong> configuration cables to the cable connectors on the backplane.<br />

2. Slide the backplane <strong>and</strong> cable assembly into the server behind the hard disk drive<br />

bays.<br />

3. Install the top cover (see Replacing the top cover ).<br />
