The highest rated factor is about the patient understanding what the meeting is for (77.5%<br />

rated it as ‘very important’). The facilitation <strong>of</strong> bringing a family member or advocate is<br />

rated second highest (75% <strong>of</strong> the sample rating it as ‘very important’). Thirdly, 70% rated<br />

the question regarding each staff member introducing themselves and clarifying their<br />

reason for being there as ‘very important’. The fourth and fifth factors rated as ‘very<br />

important’ are the purpose <strong>of</strong> the meeting being explained to the patient beforehand<br />

(67.5%) and appointments being given to those attending (65%).<br />

The least important rated factor was patients being <strong>of</strong>fered refreshments, which was rated<br />

as ‘not important’ by 42.5%. That the patient is present throughout the discussion <strong>of</strong> their<br />

care was rated as ‘not important’ by 25% and that service users should not be asked<br />

questions which take them into painful or intimate areas <strong>of</strong> their lives was rated as ‘not<br />

important’ by 10%. The fourth least important factor was that all pr<strong>of</strong>essionals are<br />

present from the start and this was rated as ‘not important’ by 7.5%.<br />

Question 2: Is there a difference regarding which factors each <strong>of</strong> the four groups<br />

view as being most important?<br />

The mean answer was calculated for each pr<strong>of</strong>essional group; the higher the mean, the<br />

higher the importance i.e. 5 is ‘very important’, 4 is ‘quite important’, 3 is neither<br />

‘important’ nor ‘not important’, 2 is ‘slightly important’ and 1 is ‘not important’.<br />
