Job lnstructisn Plan for War Production
- Key points do not mean every conceivable References
thing that is to be watched, or which
might go wrong. There is no need to go
that far into detail.
Knowing what key paints are and how to pick
them out quickly and eady is perhaps the
WBANT single thing in Job in-
struction.
Examples of key points (cite asappropriate):
- "Feel." When putting a micrometer on a
piece of stock, the key point is "how
tight1!- a matter of "feel."
- "Knack. " When riveting, an important
point is to know when to remove the pneu-
matic riveter. The "key" to this point is
to listen to the riveting. The scund will
changz when the pieces are solidly
together.
- "Tining and placing of heat. " When weld-
ing there are, among others, two main key
points: (1) apply the flame ahead of the
v:eld and (2) get the metal the right hezt,
a matter of observing the color and behav-
ior of the u,etal.
- "Hazsrd. " V!hen using a knife, a key point
is to "cut away from you." When lifting a
load with an overhead crane, a key point
is to pull the chains or cables up taut,
then hesitate for a moment to check the
hitches, before lifting the load.
- "Special. motion. " When catching hot rods
shooting out of rolling mills, the key
point is to swing quickly the flowing rod
in an arc eway frsm you before inserting
the end in the next set of rolls.
- "Special ~pformatiog." On some kinds of
electrical wiring the key point is to
attach the identified negative wire to the
tinned screw, and the positive wire to the
brass screw.
