4.1.3 The Questi<strong>on</strong>naire<br />
The final versi<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> the questi<strong>on</strong>naire (copies <strong>of</strong> which are shown in Appendix A: English versi<strong>on</strong> and<br />
Appendix B: Maltese versi<strong>on</strong>s) and the ‘demographic’ variables used were discussed and determined<br />
with the MBB, also taking in<strong>to</strong> c<strong>on</strong>siderati<strong>on</strong> relevant questi<strong>on</strong>s from the EC’s SAFE initiative. The<br />
questi<strong>on</strong>naire c<strong>on</strong>sisted <strong>of</strong> a number <strong>of</strong> close-ended questi<strong>on</strong>s and probes the attitudes, individual<br />
preferences, behaviour and c<strong>on</strong>cerns related <strong>to</strong> access <strong>to</strong> finance for SMEs.<br />
The draft questi<strong>on</strong>naire was initially pre-tested <strong>on</strong> a sample <strong>of</strong> 5 resp<strong>on</strong>dents. Adjustments were<br />
made accordingly, depending <strong>on</strong> the feedback received.<br />
4.1.4 The Interviewers<br />
The survey was c<strong>on</strong>ducted by trained and experienced interviewers who were given a technical<br />
briefing organised by our research team before c<strong>on</strong>ducting the interviews. The inputting <strong>of</strong> the<br />
quantitative data from the resp<strong>on</strong>ses was carried out by these trained staff using a spreadsheet<br />
specifically prepared by the research team.<br />
4.2 Stakeholder c<strong>on</strong>sultati<strong>on</strong><br />
In order <strong>to</strong> gather further informati<strong>on</strong> <strong>on</strong> current financial assistance and sec<strong>to</strong>ral needs, a number<br />
<strong>of</strong> sec<strong>to</strong>ral stakeholder interviews were c<strong>on</strong>ducted. These included interviews with:<br />
<strong>Bank</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Valletta</strong> plc, as financial intermediary in charge <strong>of</strong> the implementati<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> JEREMIE<br />
Ministry for Resources and Rural Affairs, including <strong>of</strong>ficials in charge <strong>of</strong> fisheries and<br />
agriculture assistance schemes, as well as <strong>of</strong>ficials from the Paying Agency<br />
Co-operative representing opera<strong>to</strong>rs in the fisheries sec<strong>to</strong>r<br />
Malta Enterprise representatives<br />
