THE following is a list of the Ard Righs or High<br />

Kings of Ireland from the beginning of the Christian<br />

era. The remarkable fact is to be noted that<br />

the descendants of King Niall I (379-405) occupied the<br />

throne of Ireland in unbroken succession till the usurpa-<br />

tion of King Brian (1002-14), a period of nearly six<br />

hundred years. This list is distinct from the dynasties<br />

in the subsidiary kingdoms, some of which endured to the<br />
