Physical education is usefully placed into the whole of culture, of<br />

education. The educational alignment of all the literary work on physical<br />

education, including the literature on sports, is typical of our<br />

time, since it emphasizes the great importance of education.<br />

The consideration of man as a unity consisting of a soul and a body<br />

characterizes in particular the fundamental literary work on physical<br />

education.<br />

The close relation of theory and practice, which is especially apparent<br />

in the cooperation of the "meditators" of physical education<br />

with the practical man. Theory thereby actually becomes a "view proceeding<br />

from practice". Also distinctly recognizable is the tendency,<br />

not to give prescription in the literary work, not only to report and write<br />

down facts, but rather to pose problems and to inspire to own activity.<br />

Typical for fundamental literature is the transcendence of the mere<br />

professional and the abandonment of the narrow professional boundaries<br />

A frankness and honesty is also peculiar to modern literature;<br />

moreover, there is nothing "taboo" any more.<br />

Again and again, the thing which is common to all, the uniting<br />

element is emphasized in the literature of the present; comparative<br />

observations are made as well. The human feature of our time corresponds<br />

to the positive attitude in regard to new and other, unacquainted<br />

things. The rebuilding tendency is plainly recognizable. Also consciously<br />

desired is the contemplative mark, the emphasis of the "education of<br />

the heart"<br />

The import of modern physical aducation, the cultural arrangement<br />

is manifested in illustrated books, which - with regard to idea or<br />

presentation - are turned out excellently. The pocketbook has seized<br />

also the field of physical education.<br />

MODERN BIBLIOGRAPHY AND DOCUMENTATION<br />

The quality and abundance of literature lead to a fundamental<br />

reorganization of bibliography as well as to the foundation of documentation<br />

in the filed of physical education. The collecting and recording<br />

of newly published books no longer suffices. Literature - as a basis<br />

of progress - must be ordered bibliographically in such a way that it<br />

can easily and quickly be found and evaluated. The new literary work.<br />
