C. Icfluecces The mouctaic slopes are grazed and some vegetation cutticg may occur, but the steep cliffs protect the higher vegetation acd the cesticg sites. 3.4.3.12. Djebel Bou Korn5ne 36'42' N 10~20' E In the west side of Hammam-Lif, 18 km southeast of Tucis, is the double-peaked Djebel Bou Kornice. From an altit~de of 10 m, steep slopes rfse to an elevatioc of 576 m at the highest peak. Limestoce acd marce substrates typical of the Tunisiac Dorsal are weathered by almost 420 mm of ancual precipitation at the base, which iccreases to 660 - 700 mm at the szmmit. A. Vegetatioc The domicact vegetatioc types of Boz Korcice are thuya forests acd maqzis, which cover 90dp of the mouctaic. Average heights of thzya ic the forested zoces are 6-7 m. Stacds of aleppo pice, pigroc pice Pirss picea, Acacia cyacophylla, Cupresszs sp. and eucalypt~s have beer plerted oc varioss parts of the mouctaic. Other plact species occurricg or Boa Korcire are listed ic figure 9. Tht. faura of B3u Korcice is very diverse (see Sectior 4, ~zris). Of special icterest is the occurrecce of Borth Africac crested porczpice, wild boar, kaffir cat, several species of bats, threateced peregrine falcocs acd egyptiac vultures. Cuvier's gazelles were observed ic 1930. The forest cover of Boa Korcice has protected the slopes from seriozs erosioc problems, bzt terracing was doce on some of the slopes to prevent possible future problems. There are a few plactetiocs oc the mouctaic acd olive groves acd vinyards at the base. Occasiocally, caper Ca~~aris spieoszs buds acd other forest prodacts are collected, bst the most disruptive humac influence oc the mouctaic is a series of 9 qaarries extracting gypsum acd construction material. Djebel Bou Komine is uninhabited and has been protected from grazicg since 1929 (peterken and Radford 1969). Part of the moactaic was established as a natiocal park on 17 February 1987. There are plans for macagemeet and cocstructioc of park facilities (see Sectioc 5.4.5).
