1. Criteria pertaieicg to a wetland's importacce to populations and
species
A wetland shoold be considered ictercatiocally important if it:
a) regiilarly siipports 1s (beicg at least 100 jndjviduals) of the flyway or
biogeographical popolatioc of oce species of waterfowl;
or
b) regilarly s.;pports either 10,000 ducks, geese and swacs, or 10,000
coots, or 20,000 waders (~lmjcolae);

c) syppgrts ac appreciable caber of ac endacgered species of plact or
acinral;

d) is of special value for maictaicing genetic acd ecological diversity
beca~ss of the q~ality acd pec~liaritjes of its flora acd fauca;
or
e) plays a major role ic its regioc as the habitat of placts acd of
aqoatlc acd other acinals of sciectific or ecocomic importacce.
2. Criteria cocceraed with the selectioc of representative or unique
wet1ar.d s
A. wetlacd sho~ld be cocsjdered ictercationally importact if it:
a) is a representative example of a uetlacd commonity characteristic of
its biogeographical regioc;
or
b) exenplifies a critical stage or extreme 5.r. biological or
hydromorphological processes;
or
c) js ac integral part of a pecoljar feature.
3. Criteria coccerned with the research, edocational or recreatiocal
val~es of wetlacds
A wetlacd shoAd be cocsidered ictercatiocallly importactt if it:
a) is o~stacdicgly importact, well-sitoated acd well eqoipped for
sciectific research acd ediicatio~;
