6.1 Maintenance overview

Check the correct function of the insulation
monitoring unit (if available).

At the generator:
• Visual inspection for contamination or
damages. Cleaning if necessary.
• If necessary, clean the plates and labels
or replace them.
• Check the cooling air openings for
contamination or blocking and clean
them, if necessary.
See section 6.3 on page 88.
At the control box (if mounted):
• Visual inspection for contamination or
damages. Cleaning if necessary.
• Check the cover and the socket lids for
waterproof locking.
See section 6.3 on page 88.
Only for brush-type generators:
Check the carbon brushes
See section 6.4.1 on page 89.
Check the ball bearings by "listening".
Replace, if necessary (rough noises at the
bearings).

The standard maintenance interval for
replacing the ball bearings is 20.000 hours.
If necessary (see check every 5.000 hours),
the ball bearings have to be replaced earlier.
