The Certificate of Completion (CCL) in Family Development<br />

prepares students to work with families, identify needs, and acquire<br />

resources that strengthen family functioning. The Family Development<br />

Specialist assists the family to gain mastery and control over<br />

important aspects of family functioning which include skills in<br />

assisting and controlling needed resources, decision making, problem<br />

solving, communication, parenting, and child development education.<br />

This certificate is designed to meet the needs of persons interested<br />

in careers working with families in programs, agencies, organizations,<br />

and resource centers that provide services to families. An Associate<br />

in Applied Science (AAS) degree is also available.<br />

The certificate in Family Support focuses on assisting the family unit<br />

in setting and achieving goals toward self-sufficiency. Knowledge of<br />

family life, communication, abuse, stress, crisis and community<br />

resources and referrals are examined. The certificate enhances the<br />

education and career of individuals interested in working with families<br />

or in agencies that provide services to families, or those who are<br />

presently involved with families and/or their supporting agencies.<br />

Apparel Construction<br />

20 Credits<br />

The Certificate of Completion in Apparel Construction is designed for<br />

students with interest in apparel construction. Students will learn<br />

advanced tailoring and couture techniques appropriate for a variety of<br />

fabrics and designs, and fitting techniques for custom apparel. They<br />

will develop the ability to select appropriate fashion fabrics, interfacing,<br />

and lining materials for specific items of apparel.<br />
