employment upon graduation. Students enrolled in the Paralegal<br />
Studies Program may earn a Certificate of Completion (CCL) or an<br />
Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree. A Verification of Eligibility<br />
form is required to enroll in the program.<br />
The Paralegal Studies Program is approved by the American Bar<br />
Association (ABA), Standing Committee on Paralegals, (321 N. Clark<br />
St., Mail Stop 19.1, Chicago, Illinois 606<strong>10</strong> -4714).<br />
Program Notes: + indicates course has prerequisites and/or<br />
corequisites. Equivalent paralegal courses, as determined by the<br />
Paralegal Studies Program Director or Legal Studies Department<br />
Chair, taken at other institutions, will be accepted in transfer if taken<br />
at a regionally accredited institution, within a Paralegal Program that<br />
was approved by the American Bar Association (ABA) at the time the<br />
courses were completed, and that were completed with a grade of<br />
“B” or higher within (8) eight years of the date of admission or<br />
readmission to the Paralegal Studies Program; a maximum of (9) nine<br />
semester hours of coursework can be transferred and applied to<br />
paralegal (LAS) courses at <strong>Phoenix</strong> <strong>College</strong>. Students must complete<br />
a minimum of 18 credits in legal specialty courses as defined by the<br />
ABA. Paralegal Studies Courses required by this program are not<br />
applicable if taken more than eight (8) years prior to admission or<br />
readmission to the Paralegal Studies Program. Prior to the awarding<br />
of the Certificate of Completion, official transcripts indicating receipt<br />
of an Associate or higher degree from an accredited institution eligible<br />
for inclusion in the Education Directory, <strong>College</strong>s and Universities,<br />
and U.S. Department of Education publications must be on file in the<br />
office of Admissions and Records. Consult with the Paralegal Studies<br />
Program Advisor for complete information.<br />
Admission Criteria: Students wishing to enroll in the Paralegal<br />
Studies Program must complete a Verification of Eligibility form to be<br />
officially accepted in the program. Contact a Paralegal Studies<br />
advisor.<br />
Completion of an Associate degree or higher degree from an<br />
accredited institution of higher education recognized by the US<br />
Department of Education.<br />
Must have current English and Reading course placement test<br />

Career opportunities for legal secretaries continue to grow and<br />
develop. New technology makes a great impact upon this career<br />
area. Today’s legal secretaries must be knowledgeable in various<br />
areas of law, document preparation, legal office procedures, and<br />
legal ethics, and be highly proficient in keyboarding, word processing,<br />
transcribing, and proofreading. The degree and certificate programs<br />
have been designed with the assistance of professional legal<br />
secretaries in our community to provide the educational background<br />
necessary for you to become a successful legal support<br />
professional.<br />
Program Notes: Students must earn a grade of “C” or better in all<br />
courses within the program. Credit will not be awarded for both a<br />
course and its modular equivalency.<br />
Admission Criteria: A high school diploma or GED equivalency is<br />
required. An application for admission to the Legal Secretarial<br />
Program can be obtained from the Legal Studies Advisor. Must have<br />
current English and Reading assessment reflecting eligibility for<br />
ENG<strong>10</strong>1 or ENG<strong>10</strong>7 and CRE<strong>10</strong>1 OR a grade of “C” or better in<br />
