Home Furnishings and Materials<br />

The Home Furnishings and Materials certificate is designed to provide<br />

the student with a working knowledge of the residential home<br />

furnishings industry, including basic design elements and principles,<br />

color theory, historical architecture and furniture, fabrics, and other<br />

materials used through the home environment. Elective coursework<br />

allows the student to take specific courses that will help them prepare<br />

for the particular segment of the industry they are most interested in<br />

pursuing.<br />

Program Notes: Students must earn a grade of “C” or better for all<br />

courses required within the program.<br />

Interior Design<br />

Associate in Applied Science — AAS 3125<br />

65-68 Credits<br />

The Associate in Applied Science (AAS) Interior Design program<br />

prepares students to work in an entry-level interior design position.<br />

The program provides both general education and interior design<br />

classes including basic design, color theory and application,<br />

architectural and furniture history, drafting for interior design, space<br />

planning, interior materials, rendering, business procedures, and<br />

professional practices. Studio projects allow students to identify,<br />

research, solve, and present residential design problems. An integral<br />

part of the program is a design internship, which provides on-the-job<br />

experience under the supervision of a professional interior designer,<br />

and development of a portfolio.<br />
