relationships. Major components of written<br />

application processes, requirements,<br />

preparation of resumes and their effect on<br />

employment prospects. Preparation for the<br />

interview to include communications skills,<br />

mental preparation techniques, behaviors,<br />

and the importance of the interview in the<br />

pre-employment process. Preparation for<br />

on-site experiences at a fire station. General<br />

components of the selection process, the<br />

importance of general education, and<br />

components of lifelong learning in career<br />

choices. Prerequisites: None.<br />

Prerequisites: (EMT<strong>10</strong>4, FSC<strong>10</strong>5 and<br />

FSC130) and permission of instructor.<br />

Basic Emergency Medical Technology<br />

8 credit(s) 9.45 period(s) lecture + lab<br />

Techniques of emergency medical care in<br />

accordance with national and state<br />

curriculum. Study of the human body, patient<br />

assessment, treatment of medically or<br />

traumatically compromised patients, special<br />

hazards, and medical operations. IV<br />

monitoring, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome<br />

(SIDS), patient-assisted medication<br />

administration, automated external<br />

defibrillators, and blood-glucose monitoring.<br />

Includes participation in two eight-hour<br />

clinical rotations through a local emergency<br />

department scheduled during the semester<br />

outside normal class hours. Requires<br />

personal pocket mask, stethoscope, pen<br />

light, and trauma scissors. Prerequisites:<br />

Must be at least 18 years of age prior to<br />

applying to the BLS (Basic Life Support)<br />

Training Program per Arizona Revised<br />

Statutes, and must have a current validation<br />

in Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care<br />

Provider/Professional Rescuer. Minimum<br />

ninth grade level reading proficiency on the<br />

Nelson-Denney Examination or appropriate<br />

Reading placement test score. Proof of: TB<br />

testing or chest x-ray with a negative result<br />

within 6 months prior to registration;<br />

Immunity to rubella (German measles) and<br />

rubeola.<br />

equipment; basic tactical information relating<br />

operations in accordance with the National<br />

Fire Protection Agency. Prerequisites:<br />

Telecommunications<br />

In-depth coverage of established techniques<br />

and procedures for handling routine and<br />

emergency public safety telephone calls and<br />

radio (contact) communications. Nationally<br />

recognized procedures for processing 9-1-1<br />

emergency calls, field unit safety, injury<br />

scenarios, and demonstrating positive public<br />

relations. Fundamental skills and<br />

responsibilities for fire, emergency medical,<br />

and law enforcement complaint report<br />

processing as well as federal laws regarding<br />

proper processing, retention, and<br />

dissemination of security information.<br />

Definitions of terms unique to fire<br />

suppression, emergency medical, and law<br />

enforcement situations common within the<br />
