POST-LICENSURE TRACK<br />

The post-licensure track of the undergraduate<br />

nursing program, or “RN-to-BSN,” provides<br />

flexible online learning opportunities for students<br />

who are graduates of community college<br />

or diploma schools and are licensed Registered<br />

Nurses (RN). Students complete 26 credits but<br />

are awarded 50 credits for prior learning and<br />

work experience through successful completion<br />

of the transition courses. Up to 60 transfer credits<br />

are awarded towards the Core Curriculum<br />

requirements for a B.S.N., thus completing a<br />

total of 122 semester hours at the baccalaureate<br />

level. Students are admitted each fall. The postlicensure<br />

curriculum is as follows:<br />

NURS 435. RN Transition II. 3<br />

NURS 444. Gerontological Nursing. 5<br />

awarded for prior learning and work experience.<br />

An individual may be admitted to the post-licensure<br />

track based upon the following eligibility<br />

criteria if he/she:<br />

• Holds an Associate Degree or Diploma<br />

in Nursing from a state-approved program;<br />

• Holds an active Registered Nurse license<br />

with the Virginia Board of Nursing or a<br />

Nurse Licensure Compact state or hold an<br />

active Registered Nurse license in another<br />

state and be eligible for licensure in the<br />

Commonwealth of Virginia;<br />

• Has practiced as an R.N. for a minimum of<br />

six (6) months and/or plans to practice concurrently<br />

while enrolled;<br />

• Has completed all but nine (9) or less credit<br />

hours of the Core Curriculum required for<br />

the B.S.N.;<br />

• Has completed all of the following nursing<br />

prerequisites or their transfer equivalencies<br />

with a grade of “C” or better: BIOL<br />

322 Anatomy and Physiology, BIOL 334<br />

Microbiology, NUTR 214 Introduction to<br />

Nutrition, PSYC 230 Lifespan Developmental<br />

Psychology, SOCY 110 Introduction<br />

to Sociology, and STAT 200 Introduction<br />

to Statistics (post-licensure students do<br />

not complete NURS 321 Pathophysiology<br />

as it is included in a transition course; postlicensure<br />

students select one natural science<br />

instead of the biology/chemistry combination);<br />

• Has at least a 2.50 G.P.A. on all nursing<br />

courses attempted;<br />

• Has at least a 2.50 G.P.A. on all cumulative<br />

college work attempted or on the last twenty-four<br />

(24) credit hours attempted;<br />

• Has been admitted to <strong>Radford</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />

HONORS PROGRAM<br />

The School of Nursing participates in the<br />

<strong>Radford</strong> <strong>University</strong> Honors Academy. For specific<br />

requirements contact the director of the<br />

<strong>Radford</strong> <strong>University</strong> Honors Academy.<br />
