INST 489Z. Non-RU Study Abroad<br />

Practicum. (6-18)<br />

Prerequisite: Pre-approval by Director of International<br />

Education.<br />

Utilized as a means to acknowledge registration<br />

in a non-RU affiliated Study Abroad program<br />

that has been approved on an individual basis by<br />

the Director of International Education and for<br />

which a formal articulation agreement has been<br />

generated between the financial aid office of the<br />

participating university and RU. Special rules<br />

apply, so interested parties are strongly encouraged<br />

to consult with the <strong>University</strong> Registrar<br />

or the Director of Financial Aid for additional<br />

information. Grade values are assigned as pass/<br />

fail and the awarding of specific course credit<br />

is determined at the conclusion of the experience<br />

and when official transcripts are received<br />

by the Office of the Registrar. If preapproval<br />

has not been attained prior to the student’s<br />

participation abroad, the student will not be considered<br />

enrolled at <strong>Radford</strong> <strong>University</strong> and credit<br />

will only be considered under the traditional<br />

transfer credit evaluation process.<br />

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY<br />

ITEC 100. Introduction to Information<br />

Technology. (3)<br />

Three hours lecture, or two hours lecture and<br />

two hours lab.<br />

Introduces students to the fundamental concepts<br />

in information technology and mathematical<br />

reasoning that provide the technical underpinning<br />

for state-of-the-art applications. Widely<br />

used computer applications, including office<br />

applications, databases, computer communications<br />

and networking, serve as examples.<br />

ITEC 108. Introduction to Game<br />

Development. (3)<br />

Two hours lecture; two hours lab.<br />

This class provides an introduction to the theory,<br />

processes, and techniques for the development<br />

of modern video games. Using a simple, freely<br />

available game development environment, students<br />

will design, implement, and evaluate video<br />

games. Students will also study and critique existing<br />

games using the techniques discussed in class.<br />

ITEC 109. Problem Solving and<br />

Programming. (3)<br />

Two hours lecture; two hours lab.<br />

An introduction to problem solving using programming.<br />

Topics include a survey of techniques<br />

used in problem solving, methods for<br />

representing the solution of a problem as an algorithm<br />

and the implementation of an algorithm<br />

as a computer program. Students who have received<br />

credit for ITEC 120 cannot subsequently<br />

receive credit for ITEC 109. ITEC 109 does not<br />

meet requirements for the ITEC major.<br />

ITEC 110. Principles of Information<br />

Technology. (3)<br />

Three hours lecture.<br />

Provides an introduction to information technology,<br />

to the principles that underlie information<br />

technology, problem solving, and to the fields<br />

that make up information technology. Students<br />

who have received credit for INSY 281 may not<br />

receive credit for ITEC 110.<br />

ITEC 112. A Global Perspective of<br />

Information Technology. (3)<br />

Three hours lecture.<br />

A study of information and communication<br />

technologies (ICT) with respect to how ICT supports,<br />

shapes, and enables economic and social<br />

changes. Covers the challenges of managing<br />

ICT, and studies the impact of ICT on business<br />

and society in an increasingly globalized world.<br />

This course has been approved for Core Curriculum<br />

credit in Global Perspectives.<br />
