MUSC 470. Fourth Year Applied Music. (1-3)<br />

One-half hour (one credit) or one-hour private<br />

lesson (two or three credits). Three credits available<br />

to performance majors only.<br />

Prerequisite: Completion of MUSC 372 with a<br />

grade of “C” or better.<br />

Upper level applied music instruction for students<br />

who have met their major requirements in<br />

applied music. May be taken again for credit.<br />

MUSC 477. Music in Therapy. (3)<br />

Three hours lecture.<br />

Prerequisites: Senior standing, all music therapy<br />

core courses and upper level standing as a<br />

Music Therapy major.<br />

An intensive study of music as therapy including<br />

assessment, implementation and evaluation<br />

procedures within all major treatment models.<br />

MUSC 485:486 Psychology of Music. (3:3)<br />

Three hours lecture.<br />

Prerequisites: Senior standing, BIOL 322, and<br />

upper level standing as a Music Therapy Major.<br />

Science of sound and music including acoustics,<br />

the hearing anatomy, aesthetics, perception,<br />

evaluation and measurement of musical ability<br />

and achievement, research and statistical method<br />

in music. Required of all Music Therapy majors<br />

and open to students in other curricula.<br />

MUSC 488. Final Honors Project. (2-3)<br />

Prerequisite: Enrollment in the Honors Academy,<br />

completion of all other Honors Academy<br />

requirements, a minimum 3.5 GPA in all courses<br />

and in music.<br />

To earn a bachelor’s degree with honors in music,<br />

a student must conduct research and write a thesis<br />

based on the research. In order to receive honors<br />

credit, a student must earn a grade of “A” or “B”<br />

for the final project. Course may not be repeated.<br />

MUSC 492. Computer Music Project. (2)<br />

Four hours laboratory.<br />

Prerequisites: MUSC 128; MUSC 212; MUSC 227.<br />

After substantial inquiry into a major topic area<br />

of computer music, such as multimedia performance,<br />

sound synthesis, psycho acoustics or<br />

existing electronic music repertoire, a written<br />

document or public performance is prepared.<br />

MUSC 493. Internship in Music Therapy. (1-12)<br />

Prerequisite: Completion of all undergraduate<br />

course requirements in music therapy, upper<br />

level standing as a Music Therapy major and<br />

permission of instructor.<br />

Six-month internship in an approved facility under<br />

a board-certified therapist.<br />

MUSC 494. Internship in Music<br />

Business. (3-6)<br />

Prerequisite: Completion of all undergraduate<br />

music business courses with a grade of “C” or<br />

better and permission of instructor.<br />

Eight weeks full-time work in the management<br />

aspects of a business related to music chosen by<br />

the student and approved by the advisor and department<br />

chairperson.<br />

MUSC 495. Seminar in Music History<br />

and Literature. (2-3)<br />

Two-three hours lecture.<br />

Prerequisites: MUSC 321 and 322.<br />

Specialized topic course. Study of advanced<br />

music history or literature. May be taken again<br />

for credit with different topics.<br />

MUSC 497. <strong>Undergraduate</strong> Recital. (1-3)<br />

(Half recital - one credit. Full recital - two or<br />

three credits.)<br />

Prerequisite: Level six proficiency in Applied<br />

Music or Composition and permission of instructor<br />

for a full recital. Level three proficiency<br />

in Applied Music or Composition and permission<br />

of instructor for a half recital.<br />

Formal public performance. Three credits available<br />

to performance level students only. This<br />

course may serve as the final honors project in<br />

music. A minimum grade of “B” must be earned<br />

in order to receive credit toward completion of<br />

the Honors Academy requirements.<br />

MUSC 498. Independent Study. (1-3)<br />

Prerequisites: MUSC 321 and 322.<br />
