LATN 315. Advanced Grammar. (3)<br />

Three hours lecture.<br />

Prerequisite: LATN 350 or concurrent enrollment<br />

of LATN 350.<br />

Intensive study of Latin grammar and syntax. Recommended<br />

for students planning to teach Latin.<br />

LATN 350. Latin Literature. (3)<br />

Three hours lecture.<br />

Prerequisite: LATN 201 or permission of the instructor.<br />

Study of a major Latin author or genre. Topic<br />

will vary. Credit may be received each time topic<br />

is different. This course has been approved for<br />

Core Curriculum credit in Foreign Languages.<br />

LATN 460. Special Topics. (3-4)<br />

Three or four hours lecture.<br />

Prerequisites: LATN 350 and junior standing.<br />

Advanced study of topics in language, literature<br />

or culture. Readings in Latin. May be taken<br />

twice for credit.<br />

LEADERSHIP<br />

LEAD 110. Emerging Leadership. (3)<br />

Prerequisite: Minimum of 2.0 GPA<br />

The course is designed to expose students to<br />

new perspectives on leadership and to encourage<br />

students to recognize their own potential as<br />

leaders. Through class discussions, readings,<br />

speakers and interactions, both on campus and<br />

in the community, students will be introduced to<br />

leadership theories, traits, and skills. This course<br />

will encourage students to be creative leaders, to<br />

accept and celebrate diversity, to recognize the<br />

importance of risk and change, and to see the<br />

potential in every person to be a leader.<br />

MATH 112. Math Content for Teachers II. (3)<br />

Three hours lecture.<br />

A mathematics course for students interested in<br />

teaching careers in elementary, middle, or special<br />

education. The course focuses on geometry,<br />

measurement, algebra, and statistics. Emphasis<br />

on developing deep, flexible understandings<br />

of mathematical content, as needed for teaching.<br />

The content of this course adheres to the<br />

National Council of Teachers of Mathematics<br />

Standards and the Virginia Standards of Learning<br />

where they can appropriately be applied.<br />

Will not satisfy requirements for a major in<br />

mathematics. Students cannot receive credit for<br />

both MATH 109 and MATH 112. This course<br />

has been approved for Core Curriculum credit<br />

in Mathematical Sciences.<br />

MATH 114. Math and Human Society. (3)<br />

Three hours lecture.<br />

Core Math for the Social Sciences. Topics covered<br />

include descriptive statistics, measurement,<br />

mathematical modeling, financial mathematics,<br />

and voting. Will not satisfy requirements for<br />

a major in mathematics. This course has been<br />

approved for Core Curriculum credit in Mathematical<br />

Sciences.<br />

MATHEMATICS<br />

MATH 111. Math Content for Teachers I. (3)<br />

Three hours lecture.<br />

A mathematics course for students interested<br />

in teaching careers in elementary, middle, or<br />

special education. The course focuses primarily<br />

on number and operations and on number<br />

MATH 116. Math and Humanity. (3)<br />

Three hours lecture.<br />

Mathematics is studies in its historical and cultural<br />

context, as a creative human endeavor. Topics<br />

covered include numerical and geometrical ideas<br />

and their development, sets, infinity, formal logic,<br />

and applications to music and the visual arts.<br />

Will not satisfy requirements for a major in mathematics.<br />

This course has been approved for Core<br />

Curriculum credit in Mathematical Sciences.
