WOMEN’S STUDIES<br />

WMST 101. Women in the World:<br />

Introduction to Women’s Studies. (3)<br />

Three hours lecture/discussion.<br />

An introduction to the interdisciplinary field of<br />

Women’s Studies through global and multicultural<br />

perspectives. It provides an overview of women’s<br />

experiences and their activism to achieve equality<br />

over time and across the world, with attention to<br />

differences of gender, race, ethnicity, class, sexuality,<br />

and nation. This course establishes a foundation<br />

for further coursework in the Women’s Studies minor.<br />

This course has been approved for Core Curriculum<br />

credit in Global Perspectives.<br />

WMST 290. Special Topics in<br />

Women’s Studies. (3)<br />

Three hours lecture.<br />

Prerequisites: WMST 101 or permission of instructor.<br />

Concentrated study on specific areas in Women’s<br />

Studies. May be taken for credit as often as<br />

course content varies. Content will be approved<br />

by the Women’s Studies Advisory Committee.<br />

WMST 490. Special Topics Seminar in<br />

Women’s Studies. (3)<br />

Three hours lecture.<br />

Prerequisites: WMST 101 and Sophomore status.<br />

Concentrated study on specific areas in Women’s<br />

Studies. May be taken for credit as often as<br />

course content varies. Content will be approved<br />

by the Women’s Studies Advisory Committee.<br />

WMST 499. Internship in Women’s<br />

Studies. (3-6)<br />

Three to six hours experiential, and advisement.<br />

Prerequisites: Approval by the Women’s Studies<br />

committee; junior status or higher; WMST 101<br />

and one other accepted course in the minor. An<br />

elective in the Women’s Studies minor.<br />

The student will be placed in an agency, department,<br />

or program with a focus on women’s lives.<br />

In this environment, the student will participate<br />

in ongoing functions, including training. The student<br />

will also meet regularly with a faculty member<br />

to process the internship experience and to<br />

relate it to readings in Women’s Studies.<br />
