ESHE 343. Lifeguard Training Instructor. (2)<br />

One hour lecture, two hours laboratory.<br />

Prepares aquatic professionals to teach Lifeguard<br />

Training. American Red Cross Instructor<br />

certification is available to those who meet the<br />

course requirements.<br />

ESHE 350. Sport and Exercise<br />

Psychology. (3)<br />

Prerequisite: PSYC 121; minimum 2.5 cumulative<br />

GPA.<br />

Provides students with an overview of concepts<br />

and principles essential to understanding the behavioral<br />

aspects of sport and exercise Emphasis<br />

is given to the conceptual frameworks and the<br />

applied aspects of performance enhancement,<br />

mental skills, exercise behavior and motivation,<br />

social factors, and psychology of injury. Applications<br />

are made to the athlete/participant, exercise<br />

leader and sport coach.<br />

ESHE 358. Technology for Exercise,<br />

Sport and Health Education. (3)<br />

Two hours lecture, two hours laboratory.<br />

Prerequisite: ESHE major and junior standing;<br />

minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA.<br />

Students shall acquire the knowledge and skills<br />

to understand and use “high tech” exercise<br />

equipment, personal computer, related software,<br />

and main frame systems employed in commercial<br />

fitness/wellness centers, hospitals, and education<br />

centers.<br />

ESHE 360. Marketing of ESHE. (3)<br />

Three hours lecture.<br />

Prerequisite: Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA.<br />

Examines the entrepreneur’s role with emphasis<br />

on marketing and promotion. Studies and applies<br />

methods employed to promote, market, select<br />

and administer all aspects of exercise, sport<br />

and health programs.<br />

ESHE 361. World Martial Arts. (3)<br />

Three hours lecture.<br />

Analyzes the physical skills and cultural changes<br />

affecting the adaptation and development of<br />

classical and contemporary martial arts in the<br />

United States.<br />

ESHE 362. Principles of Self Defense. (3)<br />

Three hours lecture.<br />

Examines avenues of self defense, personal survival<br />

methods and danger prevention strategies<br />

including: defense for assault, rape, home security,<br />

environmental awareness, ethics, moral and<br />

legal ramifications of self protection.<br />

ESHE 363. Seminar in Professional<br />

Fieldwork. (1)<br />

One hour lecture.<br />

Prerequisite: Junior standing; minimum 2.5 cumulative<br />

GPA.<br />

Examines issues in Commercial Fitness/Sports<br />

Medicine. Provides information for resume, interviewing,<br />

job search skills and contracts. This<br />

course is required for admittance to ESHE 463.<br />

Pass/Fail.<br />

ESHE 364. Pre-Professional Fieldwork<br />

in ESHE. (3)<br />

Prerequisite: Junior standing and instructor’s<br />

permission; minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA.<br />

Provides junior ESHE students with the opportunity<br />

to integrate previous course work with practical<br />

field experience. Offers students 120-150 onsite<br />

work hours to apply theory to practice.<br />

ESHE 370. Sociocultural Aspects of Sport. (3)<br />

Three hours lecture.<br />

Prerequisite: ESHE 212 and junior standing;<br />

minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA.<br />

The purpose of this course is to introduce<br />

the student to sport specific sociocultural<br />

perspectives as they apply to the study of sport<br />

management. Topics may include race/ethnicity,<br />

gender and social class, and globalization as<br />

these report to sport. Students will demonstrate<br />

the ability to assess the effect of sport in both<br />

America and global societies.<br />

ESHE 382. Methods for Teaching K-12<br />

Physical Education. (4)<br />

Three hours lecture; two hours field experience.<br />

Prerequisite: ESHE 210; minimum 2.5 cumulative<br />

GPA.<br />

Teacher candidates will gain an understanding<br />

of developmentally appropriate physical education<br />

teaching practices for teaching elementary
