MUSC 499. <strong>Undergraduate</strong> Thesis. (2)<br />

Prerequisites: MUSC 322 and 498.<br />

Formulation and writing of an extended paper<br />

on an appropriate topic relating to music history<br />

and literature. This course may serve as the final<br />

honors project in music. A minimum grade of<br />

“B” must be earned in order to receive credit<br />

toward completion of the Honors Academy<br />

requirements.<br />

NURS 111. Personal Health. (3)<br />

Three hours lecture.<br />

Emphasizes current health issues most applicable<br />

to college-age population. Students exposed<br />

to information and strategies used to deal<br />

effectively with life adjustment problems and<br />

to promote healthful living habits. Open to all<br />

students. (Students who have earned credit for<br />

HLTH 111 may not earn credit for NURS 111.)<br />

This course has been approved for Core Curriculum<br />

credit in Health and Wellness.<br />

NURS 321. Pathophysiology. (3)<br />

Three hours lecture.<br />

Prerequisite: BIOL 322.<br />

Major pathophysiologic concepts are explored.<br />

Theories relating etiology, pathogenesis, and<br />

clinical manifestations are used to study common<br />

disease processes. Concepts from anatomy<br />

and physiology provide the foundation for exploring<br />

human dysfunction. Concepts learned in<br />

this course are basic to the health professions.<br />

This course is open to all students.<br />

NURS 330. Foundations for Professional<br />

Practice. (3)<br />

Three hours lecture<br />

Prerequisite: Upper division standing; Registered<br />

Nurse students.<br />

The objectives and content of this Level One<br />

Course are derived from the School of Nursing’s<br />

philosophy and conceptual framework<br />

and facilitate achievement of the School’s program<br />

objectives, as well as the essentials of<br />

Baccalaureate Education (AACN). Additionally,<br />

the major topics and skills covered in this<br />

course are common to most foundational and<br />

professional texts. Current research and advancement<br />

in nursing theory and clinical practice<br />

also determine course content.<br />

NURS 335. RN Transition I. * (3)<br />

Three hours lecture; two hours laboratory<br />

Prerequisite: Upper division standing; Registered<br />

Nurse students.<br />

The objectives and content of this course are derived<br />

from the AACN Essentials of Baccalaureate<br />

Education for Professional Nursing Practice and<br />

the School of Nursing’s philosophy and conceptual<br />

framework to facilitate the achievement of the program<br />

objectives. The course integrates pathophysiology,<br />

pharmacology and health assessment for the<br />

experienced Registered Nurse as follows: (1) focuses<br />

on pathophysiology throughout the lifespan<br />

providing the student with a scientific knowledge<br />

base applicable to clinical practice (2) emphasizes<br />

the relationship of drugs and their effects on humans,<br />

and (3) focuses on the use of health assessment<br />

skills with clients throughout the lifespan<br />

providing the student with the opportunity to gain<br />

the knowledge and skills required to perform a systematic<br />

health assessment.<br />

NURS 340. Health Assessment<br />

Throughout the Lifespan. (3)<br />

Two hours lecture; two hours laboratory.<br />

Prerequisite: Upper division standing Focuses<br />

on the use of health assessment skills required<br />

to perform a systematic health assessment.<br />

NURS 345. Professional and Therapeutic<br />

Foundations of Community-Based Nursing<br />

Practice. (7)<br />

Four hours lecture; three hours clinical lab.<br />

Prerequisite: Upper division standing.<br />

Focuses on the foundational skills necessary for<br />

successful community based nursing practice.<br />

NURS 352. Mental Health Nursing. (5)<br />

Three hours lecture; six hours practicum.<br />

Prerequisite: Upper division standing.<br />

Development of nursing knowledge and skill<br />

for mental health promotion, protection, and<br />

restoration.
