matrix representations, determinants and characteristic<br />

instructor before registering. May be taken again<br />

MATH 488. Final Honors Project. (2-3)<br />

Prerequisite: Major in mathematics and/or statistics,<br />

enrollment in the Honors Academy, completion<br />

of all other Honors Academy requirements, a<br />

minimum 3.5 GPA in all courses and in mathematics<br />

and statistics, senior standing.<br />

Topic to be explored determined by the student,<br />

the faculty member with whom the student<br />

works and the department. Topics may be chosen<br />

from the areas of analysis, algebra, topology<br />

or applied mathematics. In order to receive honors<br />

credit, a student must earn a grade of “A”<br />

or “B” for the final project. Course may not be<br />

repeated. See “Honors Academy” on p. 81<br />

MATH 499. Internship in Mathematics. (1-6)<br />

Prerequisite: Junior or senior standing; at<br />

least a 2.5 GPA overall, at least a 2.5 GPA in<br />

to real-world mathematical problems in a professional<br />

setting. Provides a platform for building<br />

teamwork skills and solving interdisciplinary<br />
