o f la ry n x], 2 vol.,, manuscript in Chinese on bamboo paper, 4-9<br />
columns, up to 18 characters per column, many illustrations, some<br />
marks in red, mounted on white paper, some edges frayed, browning<br />
and marking, modern stitched plain wrappers, in blue cloth folder,<br />
bone toggles, 285 x 164 mm., [China, Qianlong period, eighteenth<br />
century]. £800 - £1,200<br />
*** Treatise on diseases of the throat, first published in 1757 and<br />
twice reprinted in Japan in the 19th century. The present book<br />
is a manuscript copy written by the author’s son, Zhang Yuanyi,<br />
perhaps prepared for the first printed edition. There are a number<br />
of corrections in red ink, perhaps by the author.<br />
22. Turgot (Anne Robert Jacques, Baron de Aulne, French<br />

referring to the sweet chestnut tree, removed from an album, folds,<br />

23. D’Alembert (Jean Le Rond, French mathematician,<br />
physicist, philosopher and music theorist, co-editor with Diderot<br />
of the Encyclopedie, 1717-83) au t o g r a p h lett e r S i g n e d to<br />

panel, in French, Paris, 30th December 1780, writing on behalf<br />
of the Abbe ?Le Senne who had been offered a position of the<br />
Societe Typographique and anxious to begin work as he now found<br />
himself “dans une situation qui lui rend le travail plus que jamais<br />
necessaire,” and stating that Le Senne can settle in Neufchatel and<br />
writes that he can be very useful to the Societe in proof reading,<br />

March 1791, concerning an order for money to pay the soldiers<br />
defending the Isle de France, folds, removed from an album, slightly<br />

book, in german, 322pp., in several hands, browned, original half<br />
sheep, paper covered boards, label lettered direct on upper cover,<br />
rubbed, folio, Nuremberg, 1796-1802. £300 - £400<br />
*** Details of a German grocer’s merchants at the end of the<br />
eighteenth century. Items such as coffee, tobacco, sugar, spices,<br />
pepper, saffron, speciality flours, oils etc. are ordered from cities<br />
such as St. Petersburg, London and Amsterdam. Detailed accounts<br />
are given of gross costs, tariffs at different ports and borders, and a<br />
final account of the overall costs per unit.
