370. Bible, English. [The Holy Bible...], King James version, ‘She’<br />
bible, contents loose and incomplete, c. 430 ff., only, lacks titles<br />
and all other preliminaries, A1,2,5, C5, E5, N1,3,5,6, Q6, T1,6,<br />
Z6, sig 2O, 3B2-5, sig. 3C, SG, 3X-4M, 4P-X, 5A1,6, sig 5C, 5D1,<br />
5E1,6, 5H2-4, sig 5I-5S, 5Y3, 6A2-6, 6B1,2,5,6, and all thereafter,<br />
sig. 2Q,Q and first & last few ff. defective, all other ff. more or less<br />
seriously frayed and creased, and many inner margins torn, but<br />
with little loss of text, little staining and marking, loosely inserted,<br />
in bifolia or single ff., in the remains of a contemporary, perhaps<br />
the orginal, binding, dark brown calf over wooden boards, covers<br />
blind-tooled, brass centre and corner pieces, and strip along inner<br />
edge, remains of clasps, worn, lower cover split, and calf defective,<br />
spine defective and with remains of suede cover, label inside<br />
front cover describes the book as ‘Old Bible, bought of gypsies’,<br />
[?Herbert 353], folio, [?Robert Barker, 1617], sold not subject to<br />

*** An early ‘Great She’ Bible, with the reading ‘she went into the<br />
citie’ in Ruth iii, 15, but without the ‘remarkable error’ of ‘Judas’<br />
for ‘Jesus’ in Matt. xxvi, 36.<br />

373. Clement I, (Pope) ep i S t o l a e a d Co r i n t h i o S, text in Greek<br />
and Latin, printed mostly in red and black, privilege f. (with first<br />
word ‘prout’ on last line), occasional light foxing or spotting,<br />
contemporary limp vellum, lacking ties, a few spots, [STC 5398],<br />
a very good copy, small 4to, Oxford, John Lichfield, 1633.<br />
