Waugh with gratitude.” The note from Waugh on Combe Florey<br />

headed paper thanks him for the gift of a book, Unearthly<br />

Gentleman, by Rubinstein and published in 1965.<br />

Pencil inscription by Rubinstein reads: “(presumably for persuading<br />

him not to sue a priest who had attacked him viciously in ‘The<br />

Tablet’ on the publication of ‘Helena’) H.F.R.”<br />
