printer’s device, full-page woodcut illustration depicting the days
of creation, woodcut initials, some decorated, title with outer
margin repaired with loss to lower corner (repair obscurring a few
letters verso) and a library ink stamp, further ink stamp to verso of
final f., water-stained, later vellum, flat gilt spine in compartments
and with red morocco label, [Not in Adams or D&M], 8vo, Lyon,

*** A rare edition with commentary in Greek and Hebrew.

initials, S4, 2A4 and 2b6 blank, title a little soiled and with 5 small
wormholes (not affecting text), occasional mostly marginal staining,
heavier to final f., occasional spotting, 18th century mottled calf,
spine in compartments, upper cover detached, lower corners worn,
rubbed,[Adams F635], folio, [Basel], apud Inclytam Basilaeam,
1540. £300 - £400
*** A scarce attractively printed work with a good provenance.
Provenance: Andrew Fletcher, of Saltoun, Scottish patriot, political
theorist and book collector (ink signature to head of title); Hadrian
Beverland (engraved bookplate to verso of title).

ends chipped, corners worn, rubbed and scuffed, [Adams V108;
Renouard, Estienne, I:65], 8vo, Paris, Robert Estienne, 1544 [but
1545]. £250 - £350
*** A writer of historical anecdotes during the reign of Tiberius.

printer’s device to 2 titles and verso of otherwise blank f., m4, i6
and c10 blank, woodcut decorated initials, some water-staining,
18th century mottled calf, rebacked, corners repaired, [Adams
B1042], folio, Lyons, Sebastian Gryphius, 1550. £750 - £1,000
*** “Edition magnifique, imprimée en très grands caractères, et
dont la merveilleuse exécution typographique ne sera peut-être
jamais dépassée” (Charles Nodier, Bibliotheque Sacree Grecque-
Latine, Paris, 1826). A good copy of this sixteenth century rarity
with ample margins. We have been able to trace only 2 other copies
at auction since 1980.
