308. Casaubon (Isaac, editor).- Polybius. hi S t o r i a r u m..., double
column, text in Latin and Greek, title in red and black and with
large woodcut printer’s device, woodcut initials and head- and
tail-pieces, a small worm trace turning into single wormhole to
lower margin of a few ff., mostly first few ff., small area of waterstaining
to head at beginning and occasionally thereafter, the
odd spot, contemporary blind-ruled vellum over boards, spine
in compartments, covers with arabesque centre-pieces, corners
worn, lighlty soiled, a good copy, folio, [Paris], typis Wechelianis
sumptibus Daniel & David Aubriorum & Clementis Schleichii,

*** Scarce at auction. Dibdin considers it to be ‘A most excellent
edition: the merits of which have been long known to the literary
world’. The work also includes the military writings of Aeneas
Tacitus. It was originally printed by Drouart, Casaubon’s printers
in Paris. Drouart sent some copies to Wechel, who thought himself
entitled to circulate them in Germany with his own imprint.
