543. Nicholson (William) an al m a n a C o f tw e lv e Sp o rt S, Words<br />

by Rudyard Kipling, colour device on title, 12 lithographed fullpage<br />

illustrations by Nicholson printed in colours, light offsetting<br />

as usual, with charming contemporary pictorial inscription in style<br />

of Nicholson and lettering on front free endpaper, loose in binding,<br />

original cloth-backed pictorial boards, boards rubbed and soiled,<br />

a few small worn patches to lower cover, spine worn and frayed,<br />

4to, 1898. £300 - £400<br />

*** The inscription reads, “To [black and crimson watercolour of<br />

elephant] From [pen and ink drawing of stooped man with staff and<br />

torch] .Glasgow November 29th 1897.”<br />

W.E.Henley, 12 lithographed plates by Nicholson printed in<br />

colours, advertisement at end, lightl offsetting as usual, hinges<br />

weak, original cloth-backed pictorial boards, rubbed and soiled,<br />

corners worn (lower creased), spine browned and slightly worn at<br />

lithograph opaque overlays by Nolan, original boards covered in<br />

handmade paper, with plain white and opaque dust-jackets (both<br />

*** Gordon House (1932-2004), artist and graphic designer, who<br />

notably collaborated with Peter Blake on the album cover of Sgt.<br />

Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band for the the Beatles, designing<br />

the typography for the back of the album, also for the band’s White<br />

Album. House was also responsible for this production of Nolan’s<br />

book.<br />

signed by the author/artist, illustrations, original pictorial yellow<br />

boards, a little soiled, 4to, printed at Watford School of Art, 1970.<br />
