by Rudyard Kipling, colour device on title, 12 lithographed fullpage
illustrations by Nicholson printed in colours, light offsetting
as usual, with charming contemporary pictorial inscription in style
of Nicholson and lettering on front free endpaper, loose in binding,
original cloth-backed pictorial boards, boards rubbed and soiled,
a few small worn patches to lower cover, spine worn and frayed,
4to, 1898. £300 - £400
*** The inscription reads, “To [black and crimson watercolour of
elephant] From [pen and ink drawing of stooped man with staff and
torch] .Glasgow November 29th 1897.”

colours, advertisement at end, lightl offsetting as usual, hinges
weak, original cloth-backed pictorial boards, rubbed and soiled,
corners worn (lower creased), spine browned and slightly worn at

lithograph opaque overlays by Nolan, original boards covered in
handmade paper, with plain white and opaque dust-jackets (both
slightly torn, the second soiled), 4to, 1971. £600 - £800
*** Gordon House (1932-2004), artist and graphic designer, who
notably collaborated with Peter Blake on the album cover of Sgt.
Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band for the the Beatles, designing
the typography for the back of the album, also for the band’s White
Album. House was also responsible for this production of Nolan’s
book.
