head- and tail-pieces, short repaired tear to verso of title and
outer margin of N3, just touching a few letters without loss, some
browning, mostly light, but heavier to a few ff., occasional spotting,
a few small stains, contemporary calf, lower cover detached,
upper joint split, spine worn and with short split at foot, corners
worn, rubbed, [STC 14000; Cockle 65], 8vo, Adam Islip, 1595.

*** The scarce first English translation of Trois livres des offices
d’estat. We can trace only two other copies at auction since 1980.

*** A ‘seminal work of Anglo-Saxon scholarship’ (ODNB),
also considered the best edition for the quality and number of its
engravings.
