*** Scarce papal ban on makers of gun-powder and salt-petre,
issued by the Camerlengo, Cardinal Hippolito Aldobrandino.
Urban VIII was the last pope to extend the papal territories by force
of arms, a notorious nepotist, a patron of the arts and an opponent
of Galilei.
