Where no MRL exists, <strong>the</strong> intake <strong>of</strong> a contaminant from food sources, including background <strong>and</strong> on-site<br />

exposure, can be roughly estimated <strong>and</strong> compared with <strong>the</strong> background exposure from food sources<br />

supplied by <strong>the</strong> multi-media exposure assessment. For non-carcinogens, it should not exceed <strong>the</strong><br />

background exposure from food by more than 20% <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> difference between <strong>the</strong> tolerable daily intake<br />

<strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> estimated daily intake. If a chemical is<br />
