Document Organization<br />

This document is divided into four parts. A glossary <strong>of</strong> terms is<br />

presented at <strong>the</strong> beginning <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> document. Background in<strong>for</strong>mation on<br />

<strong>the</strong> National Contaminated Sites Remediation Program (NCSRP)<br />

assessment <strong>and</strong> remediation framework, including <strong>the</strong> scientific tools<br />

that have been developed under <strong>the</strong> program to help assess <strong>and</strong><br />

remediate contaminated sites in Canada is provided in Part A.<br />

In<strong>for</strong>mation on <strong>the</strong> principles <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> soil quality guidelines derivation<br />

protocol is also included in Part A. The processes <strong>for</strong> deriving<br />

environmental <strong>and</strong> human health guidelines are described in Part B <strong>and</strong><br />

Part C. Part D concludes this document by providing guidance on<br />

derivation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> final soil quality guideline. Methods <strong>and</strong> models<br />

employed in <strong>the</strong> ecological sections <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> document, <strong>and</strong> check<br />

mechanisms <strong>for</strong> indirect exposure from soil contaminants <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> human<br />

health guidelines, are provided in <strong>the</strong> Appendices.<br />
