Rule 74 also prescribes <strong>the</strong> system <strong>for</strong> monitor<strong>in</strong>g and report<strong>in</strong>g. test<strong>in</strong>g. plugg<strong>in</strong>g of <strong>the</strong><br />

well. and <strong>the</strong> penalties to be assessed <strong>for</strong> violations of <strong>the</strong> Rule.<br />

Br<strong>in</strong>e M<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g Injection Wells<br />

Pend<strong>in</strong>g implementation of Rule 81. new wells will be conSidered <strong>for</strong> temporary <strong>in</strong>jection<br />

permits. A drill<strong>in</strong>g permit. a requirement of Statewide Rule 5. is necessary be<strong>for</strong>e a br<strong>in</strong>e<br />

m<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>jection well Is drilled. Drill<strong>in</strong>g. cas<strong>in</strong>g. and cement<strong>in</strong>g must be In accordance with<br />

Rule 13. Specific Instructions In regard to apply<strong>in</strong>g <strong>for</strong> a br<strong>in</strong>e m<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g Injection well permit<br />

may be obta<strong>in</strong>ed from Underground Injection Control In Aust<strong>in</strong>.<br />

General<br />

In general. Rules 9.46. and 74 are basically <strong>the</strong> same, except <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> type of well. In o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

words. <strong>the</strong> application procedures. permitt<strong>in</strong>g. monitor<strong>in</strong>g and report<strong>in</strong>g. etc.. all read about<br />

<strong>the</strong> same except that each Rule perta<strong>in</strong>s to a different type of operation.<br />

I; Differences Between Disposal Wells. Injection Wells and Hydrocarbon Storage Wells<br />

A. Disposal Wells<br />

porous reservoirs productive of oU. gas. or geo<strong>the</strong>rmal resources<br />
