The certificate in Procurement and Contract Management is<br />

designed to familiarize participants with the broad concepts and<br />

strategies <strong>of</strong> procurement and contract management. Major topics<br />

include the foundations <strong>of</strong> pricing and negotiations, basic aspects<br />

<strong>of</strong> contracting, procurement <strong>of</strong> services and products, aspects <strong>of</strong><br />

commercial transactions, logistics, and materials management.<br />

Public Relations (15 credits)<br />

The certificate in Public Relations provides students with solid<br />

grounding in public relations theory, legal and ethical issues<br />

confronted by practitioners, and the analytic and creative skills<br />

necessary to excel in the pr<strong>of</strong>ession. Each <strong>of</strong> the courses addresses<br />

the impact <strong>of</strong> the explosion <strong>of</strong> Internet-enabled, networked<br />

communications that is forcing change in the manner in which<br />

corporations communicate with their varied publics.<br />

Students must take the following courses:<br />

PRPA 601 Public Relations Theory and Practice (3)<br />

PRPA 602 Media Communications Techniques (3)<br />

PRPA 603 Public Relations Research (3)<br />

PRPA 604 Public Relations Law and Ethics (3)<br />

PRPA 610 Crisis Management Seminar (3)<br />

Note: Students must complete PRPA 601 and 602 as their first<br />

two courses.<br />

Systems Analysis (12 credits)<br />

In the development <strong>of</strong> an information system, early attention<br />

must be given to tasks such as problem definition, systems<br />

analysis, requirements definition, and logical design. The certificate<br />

in Systems Analysis is designed to prepare students to<br />

undertake these early tasks. In addition to providing a technical<br />

foundation, the certificate program provides education on managerial<br />

uses <strong>of</strong> information systems, the s<strong>of</strong>tware development<br />

life cycle, and systems analysis and design.<br />

Students must take the following courses:<br />

ADMN 641 Information Systems Management and Integration (3)<br />

ADMN 643 Systems Analysis and Design (3)<br />

ADMN 644 Decision Support Systems and Expert Systems (3)<br />

Students must choose one <strong>of</strong> the following:<br />

ADMN 640 Information Systems for Managers (3)<br />

Any CSMN course<br />

Any TLMN course<br />

Note: ADMN 640 is recommended for students with little<br />

knowledge <strong>of</strong> management information systems. Students with<br />

some knowledge <strong>of</strong> management information systems are<br />

encouraged to choose a CSMN or TLMN course.<br />
