Academic Programs<br />
The Graduate School currently has 18 graduate degree programs,<br />
including a Master <strong>of</strong> Arts in Teaching, a Master <strong>of</strong><br />
Business Administration, a Master <strong>of</strong> Education, a Master <strong>of</strong><br />
Distance Education, a Master <strong>of</strong> International Management,<br />
a Master <strong>of</strong> S<strong>of</strong>tware Engineering, and a Doctor <strong>of</strong> Management.<br />
The Master <strong>of</strong> Science degree is available in accounting<br />
and financial management, accounting and information technology,<br />
biotechnology studies, computer systems management,<br />
e-commerce, environmental management, health care administration,<br />
information technology, management, technology management,<br />
and telecommunications management.<br />
The Graduate School also <strong>of</strong>fers several executive degree programs<br />
(including Executive Programs leading to a Master <strong>of</strong><br />
Business Administration, a Master <strong>of</strong> Science in technology management,<br />
or a Master <strong>of</strong> Science in information technology).<br />
Dual degree programs enable students to acquire two graduate<br />
degrees for substantially fewer credits than would be required if<br />
the two degrees were earned separately. The Graduate School<br />
also <strong>of</strong>fers more than 35 certificate programs in areas <strong>of</strong> distance<br />
education, e-commerce, general management, information technology<br />
systems, international management, and management <strong>of</strong><br />
technological systems.<br />
The Graduate School also <strong>of</strong>fers an accelerated route to teacher<br />
certification in <strong>Maryland</strong>, preparing students with a bachelor’s<br />
degree to teach in the <strong>Maryland</strong> public school system. Courses<br />
taken through this resident teacher certification program may<br />
also be applied to either the Master <strong>of</strong> Arts in Teaching or the<br />
Master <strong>of</strong> Education programs at UMUC.<br />

Other Programs<br />
The following programs are also administered by the Graduate<br />
School.<br />
Institute for Environmental Management<br />
The Institute for Environmental Management provides educational<br />
services in the field <strong>of</strong> environmental management to<br />
individuals and corporations, and to federal, state, and local<br />
governments. The institute contributes to the exchange <strong>of</strong><br />
knowledge in this field by conducting workshops and short<br />
courses. Priorities include providing guidance to organizations<br />
on regulatory compliance requirements, working with government<br />
and the private sector to help them resolve environmental<br />
issues and improve technology transfer, and working with<br />
organizations to build the leadership competencies needed to<br />
respond to the expanding demand for environmental services.<br />

Institute for Global Management<br />
The Institute for Global Management conducts research and<br />
provides training on topics central to the management <strong>of</strong> international<br />
enterprises. The institute <strong>of</strong>fers customized seminars<br />
and consulting services and engages in applied research on topics<br />
that prepare managers for the effective conduct <strong>of</strong> international<br />
business. Priorities include leadership development in<br />
transnational organizations, technology management (particularly<br />
the information systems <strong>of</strong> transnational corporations), and corporate<br />
responsibility (with special emphasis on global environmental<br />
issues, technology transfer concerns, and localization <strong>of</strong><br />
management).<br />
