Technology Requirements<br />
Students pursuing a degree in any <strong>of</strong> the information technology<br />
fields (computer systems management, information technology,<br />
telecommunications management, and s<strong>of</strong>tware engineering)<br />
must have access to a computer and modem capable <strong>of</strong> supporting<br />
current s<strong>of</strong>tware. Such programs may require more than<br />
the minimum hardware and s<strong>of</strong>tware needed for basic online<br />
communication and study (listed on p. 31).<br />
In addition, students in the database systems technologies,<br />
information resource management, and s<strong>of</strong>tware development<br />
management tracks are also required to have access to a computer<br />
with the following features:<br />
■ At least 256 MB RAM (512 MB preferred)<br />
■ At least 5 GB disk space<br />
■ Windows 2000 or later<br />
■ 56 KB modem or better (e.g., broadband)<br />
■ CD burner<br />
■ Telnet and FTP service (via their ISP)<br />
■ Compression s<strong>of</strong>tware (e.g., WinZip)<br />
■ FTP s<strong>of</strong>tware<br />
■ Media s<strong>of</strong>tware (e.g., RealOne Player)<br />
Formats/Locations<br />
Classes are currently <strong>of</strong>fered online and at <strong>College</strong> Park and the<br />
Shady Grove Center in Rockville. Students should check the<br />
current Graduate Schedule <strong>of</strong> Classes to determine when courses<br />
will be <strong>of</strong>fered at specific locations.<br />
Curriculum Requirements<br />
Noncredit Course<br />
All degree-seeking students are required to complete the noncredit<br />
course UCSP 610 Library Skills for the Information Age<br />
within their first 6 credits <strong>of</strong> study.<br />
