Master <strong>of</strong> Science in E-Commerce<br />
The Master <strong>of</strong> Science (MS) in e-commerce degree program introduces participants to<br />
the critical competencies and skills needed to effectively identify, develop, and implement<br />
e-commerce business strategies in various types <strong>of</strong> organizations. These competencies<br />
and skills are developed using several key themes incorporated throughout the<br />
program in the core curriculum, which consists <strong>of</strong> technology-driven change; dynamic<br />
innovation and creativity; globalization <strong>of</strong> commerce; ethics, social responsibility, and<br />
cultural sensitivity; and integrative systems thinking and practice.<br />
These themes are continually reinforced in the core courses. They form the basis <strong>of</strong> lectures,<br />
readings, exercises and graded assignments, individual and group projects, cases,<br />
and discussions.<br />
Overview<br />
This 36-credit degree program leads to the degree <strong>of</strong> Master <strong>of</strong> Science in e-commerce.<br />
It consists <strong>of</strong> nine core courses, including a capstone course, and three elective courses.<br />
The three elective courses can be selected from existing UMUC graduate courses.<br />

Program Requirements<br />
Decision-Pending Status<br />
Students may enroll in one <strong>of</strong> the following graduate courses before UMUC has<br />
received the <strong>of</strong>ficial college transcript from the bachelor’s-degree-granting institution:<br />
ECOM 610 or ECOM 620. Students must receive an admission decision before subsequent<br />
enrollments.<br />
Formats/Locations<br />
Courses in e-commerce are currently <strong>of</strong>fered online only. Elective courses may be available<br />
at locations in the metropolitan Washington, D.C., area. Students should check<br />
the current Graduate Schedule <strong>of</strong> Classes to determine when courses will be <strong>of</strong>fered at specific<br />
locations.<br />
Students who first complete the entire MS in e-commerce degree program and meet all<br />
requirements for graduation will be eligible to earn an MBA, in either the regular or<br />
executive format, with only an additional 18–24 semester hours <strong>of</strong> coursework. The<br />
MBA is <strong>of</strong>fered online. More information on the dual degree program is on p. 86.<br />
