ADMN 601 The Manager in a Technological Society (3)<br />

This course presents an overview <strong>of</strong> the fundamental concepts<br />

<strong>of</strong> organizational theory and design in the context <strong>of</strong> a postindustrial<br />

and increasingly global society. Integrated within the<br />

study <strong>of</strong> organizations are several key knowledge areas essential<br />

to today’s manager: the impact <strong>of</strong> technological and workforce<br />

changes on society, organizational ethics and social re s p o n s i b i l i t y,<br />

global issues, history <strong>of</strong> management thought and its re l e vance<br />

for managers today, and systems thinking and the challenges <strong>of</strong><br />

managing in t o d a y’s complex and rapidly changing enviro n m e n t .<br />

Course content addresses essential concepts in organizational theo<br />

ry and design, including measuring effectiveness, organizational<br />

life cycles, options for organizational stru c t u re, and becoming the<br />

learning organization. The course provides a knowledge base<br />

upon which other core courses build.<br />

ADMN 619 Financial Management and Accounting<br />

Capstone (3)<br />

This is the capstone course for the Master <strong>of</strong> Science in accounting<br />

and financial management. Subject matter from the financial<br />

management and accounting courses is integrated through readings<br />

and class discussion. Principles, techniques, and theories are<br />

applied through the analysis and presentation <strong>of</strong> case studies by<br />

teams <strong>of</strong> students. An end-<strong>of</strong>-course research paper that comprehensively<br />

analyzes an important current issue or emerging trend<br />

in the fields <strong>of</strong> financial management and accounting is<br />

required.<br />

ADMN 622 Integrative Supply Chain Management (3)<br />

This course covers supply chain issues, techniques, methodologies,<br />

and strategies designed to enhance organizational procurement<br />

efficiency. The course specifically explores integrated<br />

supply chain management as a core competitive strategy that<br />

affects the organization’s bottom line. In addition, the course<br />

deals with integration <strong>of</strong> information, supplies, and materials<br />

flows across multiple supply chain channels and how these flows<br />

can be streamlined and optimized for more efficient procurement.<br />

Topics covered are the role <strong>of</strong> information systems and<br />

technology in supply chain management, e-commerce strategies,<br />

managing the flow <strong>of</strong> materials across the supply chain, developing<br />

and maintaining supply chain partnerships and other relationships,<br />

and future challenges in integrative supply chain<br />

management.<br />

ADMN 623 Contemporary Logistics (3)<br />

This course covers logistical issues, techniques, methodologies,<br />

and strategies designed to enhance organizational efficiency. The<br />

course specifically examines the total cost approach to logistics;<br />

logistical planning and implementation; logistical concepts; systems<br />

relationships and integration; demand forecasting; interplant<br />

m ovement; inve n t o ry management and control; order management<br />

and processing; packaging; plant and warehouse selection;<br />

p roduction scheduling; traffic and transportation management;<br />

w a rehouse and distribution management; re c ycling; and other<br />

logistical strategies, techniques, and methodologies.<br />

ADMN 625 Organizational Communication and Group<br />

Development (3)<br />

(Also <strong>of</strong>fered with ADMN 635 as a cluster course.) This course<br />

investigates the theories and research related to communication<br />

and group development within modern organizations. It examines<br />

definitions, models, and barriers, including structural, psychological,<br />

and technological factors. It investigates current issues,<br />

such as the impact <strong>of</strong> the global environment, cultural dive r s i t y,<br />

and virtual environments. It includes strategies and methods for<br />

managing conflict and managing change. Interpersonal, smallg<br />

ro u p, and large-group settings are addressed. Managerial application<br />

<strong>of</strong> the concepts is stressed.<br />

ADMN 626 Purchasing and Materials Management (3)<br />

An overview <strong>of</strong> the procurement and contracting cycle and <strong>of</strong><br />

other organizational functions is provided. Methods <strong>of</strong> purchasing<br />

and source selection are covered, with a focus on receipt,<br />

inspection, and quality assurance. Documentation and re p o rt i n g<br />

specifics are examined, as are surplus, salvage, and disposal issues.<br />

In ve n t o ry, physical distribution, and logistics are considered.<br />

ADMN 627 Legal Aspects <strong>of</strong> Contracting (3)<br />

(Also listed as PMAN 636.) The law <strong>of</strong> commercial purchasing<br />

is presented, including the law <strong>of</strong> agency, contracts, sales, torts,<br />

and antitrust. In addition, the Federal Acquisition Regulation<br />

and American Bar Association model procurement codes for<br />

state and local governments are examined. Topics addressed<br />

include the authority <strong>of</strong> purchasing, unauthorized purchases,<br />

rights and duties <strong>of</strong> sellers and buyers under a contract, buyer<br />

rights upon receipt <strong>of</strong> nonconforming goods, ability to terminate<br />

a sales contract, formation <strong>of</strong> government contracts, and<br />

formal dispute resolution.<br />
