94 Gender equality <strong>initiatives</strong><br />

M<strong>on</strong>i<strong>to</strong>ring and evaluati<strong>on</strong><br />

Usually, the m<strong>on</strong>i<strong>to</strong>ring of n<strong>on</strong>-<strong>legislative</strong> <strong>initiatives</strong> <strong>for</strong> the promoti<strong>on</strong> of <strong>gender</strong><br />

equality in the workplace is an internal procedure at the implementing organisati<strong>on</strong>.<br />

They have available the numbers of participating and winning enterprises. In the field of<br />

prizes, labels and charters, it can be generally asserted that the number of participating<br />

enterprises has been increasing over time. This dem<strong>on</strong>strates that public interest and<br />

attenti<strong>on</strong> <strong>to</strong>wards the <strong>initiatives</strong> is rising. Only a few <strong>initiatives</strong> saw a decrease of<br />

numbers, which might have its causes in a limited target group (e.g. enterprises in a<br />

specific sec<strong>to</strong>r or in a specific geographic area) or also with a rising number of competing<br />

<strong>initiatives</strong> in the field of <strong>gender</strong> equality in a certain country.<br />

In the field of evaluati<strong>on</strong>, it has been observed that in many cases there is no <strong>for</strong>mal<br />

evaluati<strong>on</strong> in a strict sense. Regarding the c<strong>on</strong>tent of <strong>initiatives</strong>, in order <strong>to</strong> show what<br />

has been d<strong>on</strong>e, there are often annual reports and brochures presenting the outcomes<br />

of a special initiative. Frequently, the term “evaluati<strong>on</strong>” is c<strong>on</strong>nected with the improvement<br />

of <strong>on</strong>going processes and with the adaptati<strong>on</strong> of c<strong>on</strong>tents of <strong>initiatives</strong> <strong>to</strong> account<br />

<strong>for</strong> changing c<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong>s in the corporate landscape or in society. These aspects lead <strong>to</strong><br />

the adaptati<strong>on</strong> of the initiative’s criteria, number of categories, adjustment of questi<strong>on</strong>s<br />

or <strong>to</strong> the change of the focus or additi<strong>on</strong>al c<strong>on</strong>tent. In terms of the structure of<br />

<strong>initiatives</strong>, many <strong>initiatives</strong> state <strong>to</strong> have annual or recurring internal reflecti<strong>on</strong>s, which<br />

might lead <strong>to</strong> structural and organisati<strong>on</strong>al changes regarding the whole applicati<strong>on</strong> and<br />

awarding processes.
