Table 2 contains the demographic pr<strong>of</strong>ile <strong>of</strong> the study participants by age and ethnicity.<br />
The 51 participants all joined their sororities between 1998 and 2001. Nine (18%)<br />
participants pledged in 1998, twenty-three (45%) in 1999, twelve (23%) in 2000, and seven<br />
(14%) in 2001. No first year members participated in the interviews. Some <strong>of</strong> the sorority women<br />
had participated in deferred formal sorority recruitment in the spring <strong>of</strong> 2001, but they designated<br />
their status in their chapters as second year. Of the 51 participants, the majority <strong>of</strong> them were in<br />
their second and third years in the chapters with twenty-one (41%) in their second year,<br />
seventeen (33%) in their third year, and thirteen (26%) in their fourth year.<br />
In the description <strong>of</strong> year currently in school, the data was evenly distributed, with the<br />
exception <strong>of</strong> freshmen, who were not included as participants due to the timing <strong>of</strong> the interview<br />
process. <strong>On</strong>e question not asked on the demographic information was during what year in school<br />
did they join their chapters. For this reason, the years currently in school do not match the years<br />
