them, now, and then get on with achieving your potential.<br />

How to be a better spotter<br />

e primary importance of spotting is the prevention of injury.<br />

Good spotting also provides the security to push yourself harder,<br />

because you know there is someone to help if you get stuck. Acting<br />

as a spotter is one of the major roles of a training partner. To get<br />

your training partner’s trust you must be a competent and dependable<br />

spotter. Here are five tips:<br />

a. Be honest with yourself, and respect your limitations. If you<br />

cannot spot adequately by yourself, get help.<br />

b. Do not injure yourself! While spotting, keep an arched back,<br />

feet planted in a symmetrical way, and stand as close to the<br />

lifter as possible.<br />

c. Know your partner’s intentions prior to each set, e.g., does he<br />

need help getting into the starting position?<br />

d. Focus totally on what your partner is doing during each set.<br />

Cut yourself off from everything else.<br />

e. Keep your hands close to the bar but without interfering with<br />

the exercise; and when needed, apply assistance with both<br />

hands in a symmetrical way.<br />
