strategies in the past, the more urgent it is that you start getting your act<br />

together now.<br />

23.50 You do not have to read much of this book before you realize what you have<br />

not been doing, but what you need to be doing if you are to start making<br />

great gains.<br />

23.51 You have far more control over your own life and destiny than you probably<br />

give yourself credit for. Grab this control, and get doing what you know you<br />

need to be doing. ere is so much more you can do with your life to make<br />

it more rewarding and enjoyable, if only you would challenge yourself to do<br />

more with it, and stop procrastinating well-planned action.<br />

23.52 For example, if you do not like where you are training, and for sure it is holding<br />

you back, find a better gym. If there is not a decent gym in your neighborhood,<br />

then put your own together. Do not just wish you could do it; do<br />

it. Either by yourself, or by pooling resources with some training partners,<br />

you can put together a terrific home gym without having to lay out a lot of<br />

money or needing much space. See Chapter 6 for help.<br />

23.53 Rather than finding reasons why something cannot be done, though you<br />

know it needs to be done, get on with doing it. See problems as challenges.<br />

And apply such an attitude change throughout your life—not just to training-related<br />

matters—and then delight in seeing your life change for the better.<br />

23.54 Making the most of your life is not about earth-shaking achievements. It is<br />

about doing your best to be your best. is is not measured merely in terms<br />

of what you actually achieve, but by the obstacles you overcame whilst striving<br />

to succeed.<br />

23.55 Look after yourself. Cut out the things that are doing you harm. Do not<br />

wait till you learn the lesson the hard way: Without your health and wellbeing<br />

you cannot get anywhere in the gym. Be kinder to yourself. Ask a lot<br />

of yourself, but not the impossible. Push yourself hard, but do not push<br />

yourself over the limit. And when obstacles and problems hit you—as they<br />

will—never forget that your life is not determined by what happens to you,<br />

but by how you respond to what besets you.<br />
