HOW A TRAINING NIGHTMARE WAS SILENCED
18.120 In November 1994, after reducing my depth of squatting and sparing my
lower back much unnecessary stress, I found that I needed to give less attention
to posture and sleeping position. Not only that, but I found it unnecessary
to do the McKenzie exercises as frequently as previously.
18.121 In 1997, injury-free, and as a result of no longer taking any liberties in my
training, using the Tru-Squat, resting more between workouts, not overtraining,
using a more controlled rep cadence, performing inversion therapy
daily, and stretching regularly, I reduced my need for trigger point therapy to
only occasional occurrences.
Practical application
18.122 Weight training is not about impact and collision like contact sports are,
and thus its injuries are different and, relatively speaking, less likely to
need medical or even chiropractic intervention. erefore weight training’s
chronic and acute injuries are especially suited to care from self-administered
trigger point therapy. Learn how to use this therapy and you will be
able to keep yourself training very hard for long periods without needing a
break. No longer will you be so much at the mercy of injuries. While injuries
previously forced you to lay off training, under the impression that rest was
what was needed to get over the pain, now you will know better.
18.123 But from another perspective chiropractic can be very valuable for weight
trainees because it helps to decompress the joints of the spine, thus improving
ease of movement and helping to prevent joint damage.
18.124 In my opinion, weight training and trigger point therapy go together perfectly.
In fact, I think trigger point therapy should be an essential part of
every weight trainee’s arsenal of tools. It is cheap, you are not dependent on
professional care unless you need to get into very advanced therapy, it needs
no regular expense beyond the initial one-time purchase, and the more you
do it the better you get at it. But you have to study up on it, apply yourself to
regular therapy, and take it very seriously if it is going to work for you.
18.125 Trigger point therapy can help keep people training throughout their lives
with far fewer obstructions from injuries and general aches and pains. I
think it is one of the very finest discoveries, and it is available to everyone for
a pittance of money plus a steady dose of personal application and persistence.
